Shades of Green

march-2009-0061

I am sure that Husband will give that "look" and sigh when he reads this.  Then I will laugh.  You see, he didn't realize that he married a green girl.  Well, that's what he would say.  I would just tell him that I am not but he doesn't agree.  Let me first state that I probably wouldn't recycle if we didn't have a recycle day.  I am thinking about making my own laundry soap only because I think that it would be fun.  I opt to do cloth diapers because I was tired of the "blowouts" and THEN it became fun because there are so many options out there.  I try to get Husband back about being green because we have a bi-fuel car.  Really, in the end it was about saving money... not the environment.  Once a friend legitimately used the phrase "sustainable living" in a conversation with me and I laughed.  Thankfully, it was via e-mail.  I probably should have refrained from laughing but I could hardly stifle the giggles.

I will say that I don't agree (obviously) with the global warming mumbo jumbo.  Is the climate changing?  Sure.  I am sure that the climate has continued to change at some level since the Lord created the heavens and the earth.  Is it caused by Man?  I doubt it.  Do I think that we should try to be good stewards of the earth?  Sure.  However, what that means to different households can run the gammut of things.  I will try to respect your prespective if it goes a little further down the road than mine... as long as you respect the fact that I am not that far down the road.

Well, now you had a look into a not really green, but people might think we are green, household.  With that said, I love my cloth diapers and if you want to chat about them it won't take much to get me started.  :)

  1. That's SO funny! Just use Kermit's phrase and tell Matt it ain't easy being green! I love that you use cloth diapers. And funny that friend that used "sustainable living" could have been me (though I know it wasn't). I guess you could say I'm very into some of the concepts of sustainable living. I think once you get beyond the mumbo-jumbo of the hardcore granola I-use-natural-deoderant-even-though-I-know-it-doesn't-work-and-I-still-smell types :-), I believe many of the concepts shout God's design. Even if those usually touting the phrase don't see those concepts for what they're worth. I'm reading Omnivore's Dilemma right now and often have to get beyond the author's evolutionist viewpoints. Just as a for instance, God designed (from Pollan's point of view this is of course evolutionary design) cows with a rumen in order to be able to digest grass, yet we mere men who think we know better and for the sole sake of the industry of subsidized farming feed them corn, which literally kills them (hence the need for antibiotics in our meat). Anyhoo...you can talk about your cloth diapers to me 'til the cows come home (no pun intended ;-)) just so long as you don't spit your diet coke out at me in a fit of giggles if I say the phrase sustainable living ;-).

  2. Ha ha!! Even Matt laughed at your comment! No, you were not the one that used the phrase. I promise to listen to what you are learning and will do my best to keep from spitting my Diet Coke on you. Even if it means it comes out my nose in doing so! LOL!! It's good to learn new things.

Funny thing... I used a natural deodorant from Sprouts (which Matt does, too!) until about my fourth month of pregnancy and hormones were such that it totally didn't work for me anymore. It works great for Matt. I sometimes have a reaction to the chemicals. Anyway, I know of the folks who just opt not to use any at all. Ew.

And let me just say I am totally excited to see that you have started a blog. I will have to link to you from here. YAY!!

Seriously, we need to hang out. ;)

  3. I am so with you! I'm more motivated by saving a buck than saving the environment. So happy you are loving the cloth diapers though!
